ANNOUNCEMENT
The Government has announced that it will raise the state of alert throughout the continental territory, raising the state of contingency in force to the state of calamity. According to the Prime Minister, this change will bring:
With this new feature, a set of new rules designed to contain the pandemic, including the ban on gatherings of more than five people and the recommendation to use a mask even on the street - which may become law.
At the end of the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, António Costa started by recognizing that the evolution of the pandemic in Portugal is, at this moment, "serious". And for that reason, the Government decided to apply eight new measures to try to counter this trend. They are:
- Government can apply restrictions on circulation whenever necessary
- Raise the state of alert throughout the country, from the current state of contingency to the state of calamity;
- Prohibition of gatherings of more than five people on the street, in commercial spaces and restaurants;
- Maximum of fifty guests at weddings and baptisms, who must wear a mask and comply with the rules;
- Prohibit academic celebrations and other non-academic events in educational establishments;
- Raise fines for establishments that do not comply with rules up to ten thousand euros;
- Increased inspection by entities such as ASAE
- "Strongly" recommend wearing masks on the street and installing the Stayaway Covid;
- Present in Parliament a proposal for the use of a mask to become mandatory on the street, "with common sense" - that is, when there is some concentration of people - as well as the installation of the application "in work, school and academic contexts, in the armed and security forces and in public administration ".
António Costa begins his statement at the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers to mark the rise in daily cases of covid-19 throughout the world. "Unfortunately, Portugal is no exception and we can classify the evolution of the pandemic in our country as a serious development", notes the Prime Minister.
